Add Oil

"Twas the night before Christmas when all through the apartment,
Not a creature was stirring, not even the cockroaches...."

We had to leave prewrapped cookies for Santa so the cockroaches wouldn't eat them...

Ha, but really. Christmas miracle of all miracles was that we didn't see a single cockroach on Christmas day!!

What a Christmas. Certainly was different, but certainly was GREAT! Everyone says that Christmas as a missionary is special and it sure is!

Santa came in the form of Aunt Amy this year! But really. She hooked us up hard core! Got permission from President Hawks to see her. We met up on Christmas Eve for lunch. We were able to share a short message!

(Editor's Note: Here is a photo Amy sent us of the Waffle Package!!!  The wrapped box is the precious Waffle Iron!!!  Only concern now is that she might never come home!!)
(Editor's Note:  Her are the bags Amy took to Sister Robinson and Sister Cox!  Sister Robinson said Amy was on the trian that goes to the airport, so she rented one of those rolling luggage carts to transport the goods!!!
Thanks again Amy!!!!  We love you!!!!)
We read from Luke 2 and sang hymns together as an apartment Christmas Eve as we drank hot cocoa and hot apple cider. It was different, but the spirit of Christmas is the same no matter where you are or who you're with when it's focused on the Savior!

We slept real well in our pj's from Aunt Amy! Seriously though. I've never slept this good before on the night before Christmas in my whole life. Sure I'm 19, but I think I've woken up every Christmas morning at 4 am since I was born. But I slept all the way till the alarm! #christmasmiracle

Pretty sure this will be the only year that I'll ever exercise before opening presents, but there's a first for everything right! We opened presents together and let's just say that I have the most incredible family in the whole world. And they know me real well.

IT WAS A WAFFLE CHRISTMAS IN HONG KONG!

You can sure bet that we'll be having district Waffle Tuesday's starting now until forever. :) I sure was one happy missionary.

Calling family was sure a highlight and then after studies we hit the streets! Just a whole lot of love going on. There really is a reason that this is the most wonderful time of the year. And missionary work is a marvelous work and a wonder. So when you put it together there's just all kinds of love and wonder going on that I can't even describe it! Not really sure what the feelings were, but they were big feelings!

Bishop Gong's Family

We had dinner with the bishop and wrapped up the night with some district caroling. There's just nothing like getting to serve the Savior full time on a day fully dedicated to celebrating Him.

Christmas Dinner
The shift to New Years happens pretty quick here. (It happens even before Christmas.) So I'll leave you with a quick New Years thought!

GA YAUH!

It's a Cantonese saying that we say all the time. It's used as a good luck, or keep up the good work, keep going, kind of thing. The literal translation is "add oil."

I've loved it since I learned it. Add oil.

And we relate everything to the gospel, so you see the correlation right?

In the MTC our Branch President's wife shared once about the story of the 10 Virgins from Matthew 25. She brought a real lamp from Jerusalem. She explained that those tiny lamps they use can only hold about 2 or 3 tablespoons of oil at a time - thus the need for them to bring extra oil to trim their lamps.

Sure, it's be way more convenient if they would have had big kerosene lamps. But it's important that their lamps could only hold a little oil at a time.

For the sake of this example, these lamps represent our testimonies. It'd be great if our testimonies were like huge kerosene lamps, and we could fill it up once and be good to go. But that's not how it works. Like the lamps of the ten virgins, we have a constant need to refill our lamps. Daily scripture study, daily prayer, attending your meetings, serving others, fulfilling callings, family home evening, going to the temple... It's not a one and done kind of thing. We all need to GA YAUH and always be doing the little things that add oil to the lamps of our testimonies!

So this year GA YAUH! Do it because you love the Savior and want to come closer to Him. As my good friend T-Hatch always says, "The church is true, the book is blue, and Moroni is always on the ball."

Love you all! Hope you had a great Christmas and have a great New Year!

Ga yauh!

Love,
SisMoRob
