This week was full of miracles and red pockets and firecrackers and fireworks and Lion Dances and roasted goose and all kinds of other Chinese food that I just didn't ask any questions about, and it was just a grand old time! It's like Christmas, but Chinese.
Miracle story of the week:
So we went finding, and missionaries have this super awful attitude about Chinese New Years because everyone is either in China, with their family or drunk. So really in all reality there aren't a whole lot of people to talk to.
But Sister Cox and I figured that if this country has 7 or 8 million people in it that there still ought to be plenty of prepared people to talk to!
So we set out one night to do some finding and as we came to the end of our finding time we found ourselves standing, waiting at a cross walk...I hate crosswalks.
There always seem to be really cool, prepared looking people waiting on the other side and it's almost a lose lose situation. Because almost no one will stop in a cross walk to talk to you. Also if you just stand there and wait for them to come to you 9 times out of 10 they have too much time to see you waiting for them and they completely avoid you. #awkwardcentral
So we come to this crosswalk and there's this girl standing on the other side. And I just feel like we really need to talk to her. So forgetting my fear of the awkwardness of crosswalks, I turn to Sister Cox who confirms my fear of crosswalks. I knew we had to talk to her. So the light changed and we met her half way through the cross walk. I said hello to her and she stopped and pulled out her headphone. I took that as an answer to my prayers and we turned and walked with her back to the side of the street we came from. We started talking to her and asked if we could sit down, so we did and had an awesome lesson!
Sister Cox even invited her to be baptized and she accepted!! She doesn't have a date, but it was just about the coolest thing ever! After we talked for a while she told us that she had seen us before praying with someone and wanted to talk to us, but when she came back that we were gone. She told us that when she saw us across the street that she wanted to talk to us as well but thought it would be too weird.
Boy am I sure grateful for the small promptings of the spirit. I've since repented for my second guessing myself over something so dumb as the awkwardness of a crosswalk. There truly are prepared people and no matter the situation, the Lord will make it happen if we just try and open our mouths. This is His work and it's humbling to be a part of.
Love,
Sister MoRob
