What. A. Week.
They just keep going. They just keep being great. You think you're blessed and then in just keeps getting better!
So many random things happened this week that it just wouldn't make sense to do anything other than a highlight reel.
1. We had a baptism!! Kind of. Ka Kiu is a kid in one of the member families is our ward! His mom had us teach him all the lessons leading up to his baptism though, so it counts. He's the bomb.
2. Ka Kiu's mom invited us over to their house on Saturday for Ka Kiu's birthday party! Some families play pin the tail on the donkey. Some families hire clowns. But he Kowng family gets missionaries to come play games with kids so they can share the gospel! It was awesome. We shared the story of David and Goliath and had this big paper Goliath with a hole in his head that they threw marshmallows through (a big crowd pleaser) and then played a matching game with gospel pictures. It was great! One of the girls there named Ann was super into it and was super excited when we invited them all to church to watch Ka Kiu be baptized! She came and brought her Dad and little brother and told us she wants to get baptized! Just a great family doing some good old missionary work. Doesn't get much better!
3. We got a new investigator this week who now has a baptismal date!! She's the coolest. But get this. Her name is Cokie. Spelled with one o, but pronounced Cookie. We're stoked to keep teaching her though!
4. We went finding and saw a girl wearing a shirt that said "God Bless You." Most people here don't really know what their clothes say, but we figured it'd be an easy lea-way into the gospel so we went an talked to her! She was fairly nice, but told us she didn't need God and walked away. It was then that we saw the words on the back of her shirt that said, "Nobody knows what it mean." It was sad, but we did get a good chuckle of the irony of the situation. You've got to laugh or you go crazy!!
5. We passed over A-Wan, or investigator with a baptismal date over to the Mandarin Elders this week. It's always bitter sweet to pass them over, because you love them so much, but this was an extra cool turnover. A-Wan is a single mom who essentially has no money. She works very hard, but is super poor. He son plays video games all day every day and never talks to her. She's super worried about him and wants to help him and that's why she agreed to meet with us. We brought the Elders with us and all sat on stools in her tiny one room apartment. He son was glued to the computer. We finally got him to pause his game for a few seconds, long enough for the Elders to start the lesson. It was a total miracle, seeing as how we've visited her three times, and all he's done is prayed with us once. Elder Liew and Elder Darrington taught one of the most powerful lessons I've been able to be apart of as a missionary. Elder Liew used to be addicted to video games and would play at least 8 hours a day. He laid it down with her son and the spirit was so strong. They came to church on Sunday for the first time. God truly does know us individually. You think you understand that concept and then you see experiences again and again and again just like this. There truly are no coincidences. The Lord knew that A-Wan and her son needed. He sends his missionaries where they need to be, and it can certainly be for more than one reason, but it was very apparent Elder Liew is where he needed to be when he needed to be there to bless one of Heavenly Father's children. It doesn't get much better than that.
Well I love you all. Keep on doing good stuff and life will be good.
Love always,
Sister Robinson
