| We played "Don't Eat Pete" with one of my favorite families the ward yesterday for FHE! Winson, a recent convert, came too! Just so many good people..... |
Good things keep happening here! Paul is progressing great and he even bought white shirt and tie to wear to church! He looked sharp and happy as can be! We've got some good new people we're starting to work with! I'm impressed over and over again with the youth here in Hong Kong and their willingness to receive the gospel and share it with their friends! Another miracle this week, there's a man named Koo Hing Daih that we've been visiting for the last few months every Sunday. The bones in his hip are basically disintegrating and he can't walk super well and has been using that as his main excuse for not coming to church for the last few years. He's a great guy, just has some things to work though! Anyways, lots of missionaries have worked with him in the past, but it never last long because he hasn't progressed much. We felt really impressed to start working with him and really get the ward involved. This week he committed to come to General Conference! And not only did he commit to come, but he wants to come for all 4 sessions!! We were really stoked!
This week was buuuuusy. We had Mission Leadership Council and a whole lot of preparation for Zone Training. Seriously. We get done with one and you start on the next!
Here is my passing on of all the great and fabulous things I learned from people much smarter than I:
1. MLC. Big focus on FAITH. An Elder shared the following analogy and I like analogies, so hope you do too. Goes like this: The term "trial" has quite the negative connotation in the world today and we all know that trials of our faith can be real tough. But if you think about it in terms of science, you shed a whole new light on it! The word 'trial' in the scientific world has a much more positive connotation. When you think about an experiment, the more trials a theory undergoes, the more validity and power that theory has. When you think about it that way, these trials of our faith, no matter how big or small are great! They're just opportunities to strengthen and "power up" our faith!
2. Sister Allison shared a great thought at Zone Training about faith. She said, "If you want to increase your faith, you should probably take a look at your prayers." I'd never really thought about it that way. But I thought about it for quite some time and it's true. The more intently we pray, the more we are able to really dial it in and focus during that precious time of the day, the greater is the blessing of faith we receive from Heavenly Father. Try it.
3. We watched a clip from "Ephraim's Rescue" during Zone Training. If you've seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about, and if you don't, you should go watch it because it's a great movie! But long story short, the Martin handcart company gets a late start on their journey to Utah and gets caught out on the plains where they are literally starving and freezing to death. Ephraim is obedient to revelation that these pioneers need help and he prepares himself to talk to the prophet Brigham Young to see what he can do. There's a scene where there are a bunch of men sitting in a room with the Prophet and when he asks who will volunteers to go help these pioneers, some men say they can be ready next week, others can be ready on Thursday and Ephraim raises his hand and says, "Brother Brigham, I am ready now." We talked a lot about how we need to be "ready NOW" to be instruments in the Lord's hands. Not next week, or on Thursday or even in 15 minutes. Now! One Elder made a great comment that I loved. He said that often the call comes and we are willing to do what is asked, but there's a big difference between being just willing and being ready.
Well there's my 2 cents for the week. You're all just awesome.! We're a week behind for conference, so we haven't see it yet, but it sounds like it was awesome!! We're stoked! Better than the Superbowl! :) LOVE YOU!
