Play to Win

This week was just fabulous.

I'd just like to throw out a disclaimer: Missions aren't always sunshine and rainbows and cupcakes and waffles and all things flowery and great. But somehow every week is just a great week and especially when Monday hits and you get to review it all, you just remember all the great things that happened!

This week was filled with lots of teaching and lots of prep for Zone Training! MLC was awesome and we had an hour and a half long discussion on obedience.

SO GOOD.

Obedience has been a lot on my mind this week, especially with our fifth Sunday and the huge push on the Sabbath Day.

It's real easy to talk about exact obedience as a missionary where you have all these very measurable rules - like waking up at 7 (Ya, I know, not 6:30. Our mission is pushed back an hour for cultural reasons.) and in bed by 11... Things like that. But I've been very impressed this week with how important it's going to be to continue to be exactly obedient after my time is finished here in Hong Kong.

Which isn't for a loooooong time so don't get trunky! :)

Sam, the 15 year old that got baptized in July, talked on Sunday in Sacrament Meeting and did a GREAT job! He's such a good kid.

His topic was reaping the rewards of righteousness and he shared the following story:

He is the only member in his home and on a Sunday evening his parents decided they were going out for dinner. They're not very supportive of him at all. He knew he had to keep the Sabbath Day holy so he decided to stay home. He has absolutely no idea how to cook and said that he had no idea what he would eat. It sounds funny, but he was telling this story in all seriousness and you could tell it really was a super big problem for him.So he's worried about starving to death because there was no one to cook him dinner (don't worry, we'll work on his cooking skill so he doesn't die as a missionary) and he decided to say a prayer. After he finished praying, he got a call from he Elders Quorum president in our ward who invited him over for dinner!

He then bore a great testimony of the blessings that come form keeping commandments aka being exactly obedient!

An Elder shared this example at MLC. Lots of coaches will play to win. Other coaches play not to lose.

Some times we live to be obedient. Other times we live not to be disobedient.

There's a big difference!

I know that there are incredible blessings that come form living to BE obedient! Being obedient is so much more about doing, being and becoming than it is about what you can't do. I love the Lord and I love being exactly obedient!

Love you all! Have a fantastic week!
