Your Grass is Greener Than My Grass

FAMILY. FRIENDS.

We went shopping for turkeys and found Christmas stuff and got really excited.
Hope you had a wonderful week because life is good. I say that every week, but it just doesn't get old.

This week was just so fabulous. Here's why.

1. Exchanges! Everyone dreams of getting back with their MTC companion in the field. Well dreams do come true!! We had Zone 24's and Sister Killpack is killin it. (No pun intended...)

2. Basically our entire teaching pool is middle aged to elderly men. BUT my faith was restored in our ability to teach females, let alone those of the younger generation! A 18 YEAR OLD GIRL (yes that's right. She's 18. And a girl.) named Kaka has been coming to English these last couple weeks and she's AWESOME. We met with her and she really wants to be happier and good thing she came to the right place because we sure can help her with that! She's doing great!

3. This is Ben. He's great. We've been  meeting him for a while and he's just hilarious. He's the one that thinks I look like Kate Middleton. He mentions it every lesson. This week he told me I laugh like her... BUT. Get this. We were teaching him and he LOVES to talk, so he's going off on something about James Bond or something and his tooth literally fell out of his mouth onto the table. Yes, his tooth literally fell out of his mouth onto the table. (Shout out to the Uncle Dentist Todd) Dental work isn't much of a thing here. But it was funny. He just kind of brushed it off to the side and we just moved right along like it's completely normal for people's teeth to fall out during lessons... So what mom says is right: only brush the teeth you want to keep!

4. We were teaching a Less Active brother yesterday. He's just this super cool guy that has to go to Mainland for work all the time so he can't come to church. We got done with the lesson and invited him to pray. He started out "Chan ngoi ge Tin Fuh. (Pause) Leih hou. (Pause)" Then he continued. Translation. "Dear Heavenly Father. (Pause) Hello. (Pause)" It's better in Chinese, but I just loved that! We got a good chuckle on our way home from the lesson, but it was awesome to hear this man pray to Heavenly Father and talk to him just like he was talking to a friend!

5. We had a solid lesson with another less active brother we are working with. We had a great lesson about relying on God and watched one of the Daily Bread mormon messages. (If you haven't seen them go watch it!) We got done and he made an interesting comment. He talked about how he KNOWS he's supposed to rely on God. It's something everyone KNOWS. But it's just hard to DO. Then he went off about how much easier it is to grow up in the church and that way you just automatically know how to rely on God and you have family support etc. I completely acknowledge the point he was making and there's validity to it. I am SO incredibly blessed with the family and friends that I have and the support they've given me and all that they have taught me. But it's also been amazing to see these people who find the church on their own and meet with missionaries and get baptized and just have these amazingly strong testimonies. So here we were kind of going back and forth talking about what benefits they other person had and I remembered the good ol' english saying - the grass is always greener on the other side. So with my lame translating skills I explained how we like to say in English, "your grass is greener than my grass" and he got a good kick out of that. Point of the story: You can sit there and point out why others situation is better, easier etc. but really when it all comes down to it we are ALL so blessed. Heavenly Father has perfect, individually catered plans for each and every one of us. It is our responsibility to do our best in the situations we have been given. No matter what our circumstances, no matter what path we are taking, it is our privilege to strive to become truly converted and come unto Christ. You can spent your time worried about how other's grass is greener than yours, or you can just be grateful that you have grass and do what you've got to do to make it as green as possible! (That probably doesn't make much sense, but hopefully you get where I'm going with this.)

Well that's it folks. Hope you have a fabulous week and remember to brush your teeth and be grateful for your grass! (Figuratively and literally because there isn't really any grass in Hong Kong...)

LOVE YOU ALL.
