Basically the only way to describe this week. It's been AWESOME.
So. As you know, we found out last week that the Elders were getting closed. Moves calls came around and Sister Cheung and I were pretty sure we'd be staying.
WRONG.
Lesson: It's just never how you think it'll be....
Sister Cheung got shipped off to Chai Wan over on the Island and Sister Dudley is my new companion here in Butterfly! I served with her back in Kowloon and she was my Sister Training Leader over there, so it's fun to get to do that with her here in the New Territories!
She's from Reno, math major, Cougar (I can't catch a break, can I? Just kidding.). She's been out a transfer longer than me and we get along great! She's probably the hardest working, most obedient, most powerful missionary in the whole mission so I got lots to learn this transfer. We've been going nonstop since Thursday and it's pure bliss.
It's going to be a real good transfer. A few examples of the things that have happened so far:
-There's a LA family that we've been trying to contact all last transfer. They've hung up on us and haven't let us up to visit them. The dad showed up at church yesterday and came up to us and invited us to their home for dinner this week with his whole family.
-A lady who has been coming to English class for a long time that has refused to meet with us agreed last Friday to start meeting with us and we are teaching her tonight.
-We went less active finding last night and were able to get in two doors and reschedule one of them. Never have we been able to do that in this area since I've been here.
-We taught more street lessons in one day of finding together than we have averaged in a whole week in the past.
Everybody is doing great here in Wu Diph! All the turnovers from the Elders went well and we've got some great people to work with! Win was confirmed on Sunday and Sam is doing great, he's set for July 12th and we're stoked!
Sam is 15 and was brought by the other young men in the ward to meet the missionaries. We had an awesome lesson with them this week! Wu Dihp kind of has a reputation for having pretty crazy young men.... There's a group of about 5 of them and we have 1 young woman in the ward. They're all about 15 years old and basketball is about the only thing on their mind. There wasn't a whole lot or respect or excitement about working with Sisters.... But I dazzled them with my extensive NBA knowledge (which isn't really that extensive and has certainly deteriorated over the last year, but is enough to make them think I know everything) and we've established a great level of understanding. They're just awesome.
We had an activity this last Saturday to prepare for the "Syukeih Chyungaausih" or "Summer Missionary" program they have here. The youth ages 16-18 are interviewed by their Bishops and Stake Presidents and then are set apart to be missionaries for 2 weeks. They are assigned a full missionary as a companion and are expected to do everything we do. They've been doing it for a while and it's super awesome! So our stake had an activity where they invited all the youth and we went finding with them in preparation. We had a couple girls that came with us and it was funny to watch their reactions at first as we just talked to people and then to see them get into it and really start sharing their testimonies!
After we got back they had a mini testimony meeting where most of the youth shared their experiences (including Sam - which was SO COOL!) Most of these youth were getting up and talking about how hard it was and this and that about how it was hot and people were rude and stuff like that and then this little twelve year old boy got up and said,
"You know, being a missionary isn't even that hard! All you do is walk around and smile and ask people how they're doing and then share your testimony! Anybody can do it! It's awesome!"
He wins for coolest twelve year old in Hong Kong. He's so right!!
It isn't even that hard!
Just smile.
Share your testimony.
It's awesome. :)
Oh and also. We got a call from the Assistants and Sister Dudley and I just picked up our summer missionaries for the next two weeks about an hour ago! Sorry.. No pictures. These computers don't have a way to send them. But I'll send some next week! She's super cute and it'll be great because Sister Dudley and I can do twice the finding. :)
Well keep working hard! Keep smiling hard! Expect miracles!
LOVE YOU ALL from the land of Sweet and Sour.
